Holland & Barrett announces strategic partnership to modernise warehouse-to-customer logistics

27 August 2024

Holland & Barrett, the UK's largest health and wellness retailer, has partnered with Toyota Material Handling UK (‘Toyota’) to enhance end-to-end logistics at its main distribution centre in Burton-on-Trent.

Toyota has developed a turnkey automated solution in partnership with Toyota Automated Logistics Group (TALG). The solution aims to improve Holland & Barrett’s delivery operations. This is a key part of the multi-million-pound redevelopment of the Burton Distribution Centre to support Holland & Barrett’s scale up of online operations.

The new system introduced at Burton-on-Trent will include AutoStore (integrated in partnership with Bastian Solutions, a Toyota Automated Logistics company), a technology that efficiently stores and retrieves products, alongside advanced forklifts, order pickers and an intelligent Warehouse Control System to streamline the process. This all means Holland & Barrett customers can look forward to faster, more reliable deliveries as the company continues to grow and improve its services.

Holland & Barrett and Toyota have been working together since 1999, starting with manual forklift trucks, and are already planning future expansions to keep up with increasing demand and enhance H&B’s online shopping capabilities.

Anthony Houghton, CEO, UK&I at Holland & Barrett, said: “We’re growing as a business and digital sales are a significant part of our business. We are investing in a new digital outbound system to support continued growth and meet the needs of our customers.”

Luis Sullivan, Head of Systems Integration at Toyota Material Handling Europe, commented: “We are pleased   to support Holland & Barrett in this exciting new chapter in their automation journey.”
