Holland & Barrett, the UK’s leading health and wellness retailer, has today announced its Group CEO, Anthony Houghton, has joined the retail industry charity Retail Trust as a Non-Executive Director and Trustee.
This appointment follows Anthony’s recent promotion to Group CEO at Holland & Barrett, as the company enters its next phase of growth. Since joining Holland & Barrett in 2018 as Group Retail & Property Director, Anthony has held senior leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer and, most recently, CEO for the UK & Ireland business. During this time, he has played a key role in supporting the business's transformation into a lifelong health and wellness partner.
Anthony Houghton, Group CEO at Holland & Barrett, said: “It’s a privilege to join the Retail Trust as a Non-Executive Director and Trustee, supporting its vital mission to champion the health, wellbeing and development of people working across the retail sector." He added: "At Holland & Barrett, caring for the welfare and safety of our colleagues is in our DNA; they’re the driving force behind everything we do, supporting our customers and communities every day. As a business that continues to invest in local jobs and the high street, we know that a thriving retail sector depends on creating environments where people feel safe, supported and respected at work. By working with the Retail Trust, I’m proud to help strengthen the support available to everyone in retail and stand alongside others in building a healthier, more resilient industry for the future.”
The Retail Trust has worked with Holland & Barrett for two years. It is one of over 200 retailers the charity partners with to improve the health and happiness of retail workers across the country, with support that includes counselling for staff members and their families, a variety of discounts and rewards and a virtual GP service.
Chris Brook-Carter, Chief Executive of the Retail Trust, said: “Anthony has been such a strong supporter and partner of the Retail Trust and its work to support the wellbeing of everyone at Holland & Barrett over the last two years, so we are incredibly grateful that he is now joining our charity as a Non-Executive Director and Trustee.”
“All our trustees play a crucial role in ensuring the Retail Trust continues to meet the needs of the retail workforce and we know that Anthony has exactly the right experience and skills to help drive this work forward for the benefit of the industry as a whole.”
As part of its support for staff, the Retail Trust is also running free online training this month to help more shop workers deal with the rise in antisocial and threatening behaviour, with each 15-minute session available to watch on demand until 31 October. It forms part of the Retail Trust’s Let’s respect retail campaign to end abuse and support staff and people can register to take part by visiting retailtrust.org.uk/respect.
